Glenn Reynolds poses a glib little question on his popular blog.
WITH WAL-MART SELLING ORGANIC FOOD and fair-trade coffee, what new reasons will the haters find for hating ‘em? I’m sure they’ll come up with some.
I’ve got a glib little question for you Mr. Reynolds.
When did we on the right decide that Big Box Mart was our designated poster child?
They’ve become synonymous with cheap goods made overseas by exploited sweatshop labor. The millions of dollars they spend cutting American workers out of American jobs are going straight into the pockets of regimes that absolute do NOT have America’s best interest at heart and who openly play games with their currency value in order to gain an unfair and uncompetitive business advantage over the United States.
Is THAT what you want Republicans to be known as representing Mr. Reynolds?
They are known to be anti-competitive and anti-worker. They’re all over the news almost every night for their exploitation of immigrant workers, and their cynical exploitation of citizen workers as well.
Are THOSE the values that you want Republicans to be known for Mr. Reynolds?
They are on record as wanting the U.S. Government to foot the Healthcare bill for their employees instead of having to foot the bill themselves.
Is THAT what you think Conservatives really believe in Mr. Reynolds?
Wherever they go they hurt small, independent and local businesses. Many of whom are conservative, Christian, salt-of-the-earth rural people who could be said to be the true, beating heart of conservative values.
What do you have to say to THEM Mr. Reynolds?
When Big Box Mart begins to drive once thriving organic food and coffee businesses out of business they way they have driven countless other “mom and pop” shops (so many of whom USED to vote Republican) into bankruptcy, what glib comment will you have for THEM Mr. Reynolds.
Do you believe that :
a poor record on environmental concerns
horrifying dealings with illegal aliens
an abysmal record on hiring and promoting women and minorities
despicable behavior like suing your own disabled ex-employees
exploitation of third world labor
merciless bullying of the independent supplier
driving down wages for hard working Americans
refusing to contribute to the communities they reside in
are things that in ANY way represent Conservative Values or Republican Ideals?
When you glibly run down anyone who points these things out as a “hater”, do you not understand that that is EXACTLY what you are saying?
Think about it.
Just because they don’t like the unions, doesn’t make them any friend of the GOP.
In fact - as I’ve blogged about before - they donate a LOT of money to anti-conservative causes. .
Conservatives have enough on their plate this fall and in 2008 without glib, knee-jerk, Gordon Gekko Wanna-Be’s giving those on the left any ammunition to paint us as The Party Of Greed.
And every time you post an “I LOVE THE BIG-BOX!!” screed, that is EXACTLY what you are doing.
Like it or not.
